$3.2 million in hit-run case

By Robert Hollis

HONOLULU - The family of a teenage girl killed in a 1986 Kalanianaole Highway hit-and-run accident that also left her brother paralyzed yesterday agreed to a $3.255 million out-of-court settlement of a lawsuit against the driver, Ernest Uyeno, and others.

The agreement resolves the suit filed by the family of Dawn Marie Julian, 16, who was killed when she was struck by a Jeep Wagoneer driven by Uyeno, on Aug. 17, 1986. Elizabeth Thompson, 15, who was walking with Julian and Julian's brother Richard, also died in the incident. Richard, then 14, was struck and left paralyzed.

The civil defendants named in the suit agreed yesterday to the settlement worked out in the courtroom of Circuit Judge Ronald Moon.
