Honolulu Police Officer Arrested While Awaiting DUI Sentence
March 30, 2011, Honolulu, HI ― On March 22 nd, Honolulu police released a mug shot of a fellow officer accused of crashing his vehicle while waiting to be sentenced for a prior charge of driving under the influence, HawaiiNewsNow.com has reported. The officer, 54-year-old Boyd Kamikawa, took the photo on March 21st, after he was arrested at his home. He was arrested because police have reason to believe he was operating a vehicle without a driver’s license. According to Hawaii News Now, the Honolulu Police Department opened internal and criminal investigations after realizing that Kamikawa, a 24-year veteran of the police force, was involved in a 2-car wreck near Chaplain Lane on Bethel Street on March 20th. Kamikawa’s license was taken away after he ran into a pedestrian last year in Chinatown. He had been driving drunk, based on a Hawaii News Now report. He entered a plea of no contest and faces sentencing in May. Negligent actions such as driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances can lead to serious injuries and death. If you or a loved one has been the victim of a negligent driver, you should consult with a Honolulu accident lawyer. You might be entitled to seek compensation in a Hawaii personal injury claim. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Crash Statistics, there were 109 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Hawaii.
