Need for Investigation of Safety Risks from Electronic Health Records
Hawaii medical malpractice lawyers don't take any of this to mean that there are no benefits from electronic medical records at all. There are great advantages from the use of information technology in the maintenance of medical records. For one, there's accessibility to updated and accurate records, and a lowered risk of human error. In fact, the federal administration is so convinced that medical records will lead to fewer errors and lower medical costs, that it is spending $27.4 billion on encouraging the installment of electronic medical record systems. However, it can also be risky when these technologies are not properly utilized by humans. The Institute of Medicine recommends that the Department Of Health and Human Services develop a plan to minimize the risks from the use of electronic medical records. The Institute of Medicine also wants the agency to report annually on the establishment of these systems, and recommends that the Food and Drug Administration regulate electronic medical record technologies.
