Woman Killed in a Hit and Run at a Farrington Highway Bus Stop
August 24 – Honolulu – The Star Advertiser reports that a woman was killed in a hit and run crash while standing at a bus stop. Benita A. Duldulao, 68, was standing at a bus stop on her way to church, when she was struck and pinned under a car driven by Richtenson Alyphios, 41. Another woman, 67, of Waipahu, sustained minor injuries when she was thrown from the bus stop, located at Farrington Highway and Paiwa Street. Alyphios fled the scene of the accident with his passenger but was later arrested by police. It was discovered that he had a revoked license due to a previous drunk driving conviction. Police believe that speeding and alcohol may have contributed to the crash. Alyphios has been charged with causing a fatal accident, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to give aid to the victims. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Crash Statistics, there were 107 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Hawaii.
