Worker Injured after Gas Explosion at Duck Tours Headquarters

July 6, 2010 – Kakaako, HI – A male employee at the Hawaii Duck Tours’ Kakaako headquarters is in serious condition after suffering severe burns from a gas fire Tuesday morning.
Star-Advertiser reports that the incident occurred shortly before 9AM at the facility after what Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Terry Seelig calls a “flash fire.” Other employees acted quickly and had used fire extinguishers to put out the gas fire by the time fire rescue arrived on the scene.
Duck Tours is a popular island tour company that uses distinctive, yellow amphibious vehicles that travel on both land and sea. Firefighters were later called back to the headquarters around 2PM due to complaints of a strong gasoline odor in the area. The facility was properly ventilated by the owner and no further injuries were reported.
