Thomas M. Otake

With over 15 years of legal experience, Thomas M. Otake has an impressive trial record that includes over 90 jury trials and noteworthy victories in state and federal courts alike. At Davis Levin Livingston, Mr. Otake focuses his practice on birth injury and medical malpractice matters as well as commercial disputes, civil rights, and insurance bad faith cases. Mr. Otake also handles criminal cases in both State and Federal Courts on a selective basis, focusing on white-collar criminal defense and cases of high significance in the community. At Davis Levin Livingston, his passion is for representing good people who have found themselves in need of legal counsel after serious accidents or injuries, forcing insurance companies to live up to their obligations to their insured.
Mr. Otake was born and raised in Hawaii and graduated from Iolani School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Pacific University in 1997 and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law in 2001. In his practice, he has earned recognition for his devotion to his clients. He earned the Extra Mile Award in 2011 for demonstrating “the dedication and commitment to go the ‘extra mile’ in representing or assisting a client in federal court.”
Dedicated to his community, Mr. Otake is a former member of the Kaimuki Neighborhood Board and the board of directors for the Hawaii Alliance for Community Based Economic Development. He also is a current Board Member of the Legal Aide Society of Hawaii, and was appointed by the Governor to sit on the State Defender Council; a council of 5 people appointed to oversee the State Office of the Public Defender. In representing plaintiffs in civil court, Mr. Otake takes care to understand their true needs so he can address these to the fullest extent of his abilities. He leaves no stone unturned as he negotiates or litigates for the best outcome for every client he represents.
