Child Injured in Honolulu Hit-and-Run on King Street

August 15, 2010 – Honolulu, HI – A 5-year-old girl was serious injured after a hit-and-run accident on August 15th.
The victims’ family remains anonymous as they deal with the serious personal injuries their daughter suffered after she was struck by an SUV as the family crossed the intersection at Coolidge and King streets on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. as the family entered the crosswalk at the intersection.
One car in the center lane stopped to let the family pass, but the little girl ran ahead and into the path of a white Ford pickup-style SUV that failed to slow at the crosswalk. Honolulu police are now looking for this vehicle and its driver who fled the scene. The SUV has chrome bumpers according to witnesses.
The young girl was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. King Street was blocked off following the hit-and-run accident while police investigated and was reopened later that afternoon.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Crash Statistics, there were 107 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Hawaii.
