School Bus Hits, Kills Elderly Pedestrian in Waikiki

November 1, 2010 – Waikiki, HI – Hawaii News Now reports than an elderly woman was killed in a pedestrian accident involving a school bus.
Clelia Roudabush, 89, of Honolulu, Hawaii, was killed on the afternoon of October 25. Roudabush was walking in the crosswalk, near the Hale Koa Hotel, at approximately 4:45 p.m. when the school bus struck her.
The pedestrian accident happened when the school bus turned onto Kalia Road. As Roudabush was in the crosswalk, the school bus first struck her and then accidentally ran over her.
Roudabush was rushed to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, but later died from her injuries.
According to police investigators, alcohol consumption and speeding were not believed to be factors in the fatal pedestrian accident. The police have ruled Roudabush’s death as accidental.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Crash Statistics, there were 109 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Hawaii.
